To load the Windows Mail app in Windows 10, open the Start menu (by clicking the Start button in the screen’s bottom-left corner) and then click the Mail app tile (shown here).
Another helpful step you may try if an email remains marked as a new message with the blue dot is to select a different message from your inbox and then select the message showing as unread again. Another resource you can use to mark your mail as read is located in the following article.
The unread email count badge does not seem to work in Windows 10 (turned on in Preferences General Notifications Show badge on the app icon - 'Show unread count'). Tried to change the preferences and quit/relaunch Mailspring multiple times to no result. Is this supposed to work in Windows 10? The default Mail app has working badge.
The mail icon in the task bar continues to show unread mail when none present. I have my Hotmail and 2 other personal email accounts in Windows 10 mail app. Sometimes the unread count (number in a circle over the bottom right portion of the mail icon) does not clear. The Mail app appears, shown in the following figure, displaying e-mails received from your primary e-mail account — the first account you entered when setting up the app.

Inbox: Shown when you first load the Mail app, the Inbox folder lists your waiting email, with your newest email at the top. The icons along the bottom of the left pane let you switch among the Calendar app, the Mail app, the Feedback app, and the Mail app’s settings.
Click the Settings icon, for example, and a pane appears along the right, offering all the things you can tweak inside the Mail app. The Feedback app, found in several apps, lets you play armchair critic, advising Microsoft on how to improve its apps.
